You have to be far enough away from an object that it appears to be about the same size as the moon.
The hardest part is knowing where and when you will be able to see the moon rise. The moon moves pretty quickly up into the sky. I watched to moon move for a couple of minutes then drove to this spot and set up a shot and waited for the moon to move into frame. I had my toy 600mm but no tripod. I snapped several shots and then it was out of frame.
You should recognize this location. It is near your house on 89.
